Over the last few months I have been working on a loft conversion on a large home recently purchased by a couple in Surrey. The interior design project is to remove an existing gymnasium and have the entire floor made over into a suite of rooms for their son who is in his early 20s. Top floor renovations can often be predictable, but in this case we wanted to make it into an elegant, contemporary space.
Interior Design Project
This ambitious interior design project includes the layout for a bedroom, bathroom and sitting area. Together with the family, I have been agreeing the design requirements; this includes the colour scheme, lighting and furniture. I have used mood-boards to present all my ideas to the family. These are a ‘canvas of ideas’ that are used by designers to layout our interior design projects for consideration by our clients.
Lighting for an area on the top floor of any house is always tricky and this is no exception. To make the best use of the natural light, I am going to be using frosted glass to section off the rooms. This will also keep the contemporary look that the owners are aiming for, as well as making it light and airy.
Other parts of the project that also have to be taken into consideration are the items you don’t see. Making sure there is adequate insulation to ensure noise levels are kept to a minimum on the lower levels of the house and even the plumbing, has to be carefully laid out in advance.
This is an amazing interior design project to be working on in a fabulous home.
